Forever Lily by Beth Nonte Russell

8/10

What a ride!

This book may have affected me at a deeper level because of my (and my husband's) heart for China and the orphans there.

Beth Nonte Russell takes us on her journey to China. She is going with a friend, Alex, to pick up Alex's adopted baby girl and bring her to the U.S. Russell goes into a lot of depth about some disturbing dreams she is having. These dreams take up about 1/4 of the book. I was getting a little annoyed at the melodramatic way in which she told these tales so when a dream scene would appear, I would skip it entirely and get on with the story. It's not like me to skip whole sections of a book but really...it was getting old. This, along with all her mumbo-jumbo about reincarnation and karma is my only complaint with the book.

I absolutely recommend this read. (But, skip the dreams!) I'm not going to divulge all the details. I will just say that the story is so amazing in it's twists and turns it is almost unbelievable.

I want you to know that the "Foster" world that I border on because of Suzanne is just as bizarre as the sections of this book you describe with dream sequences and karma boogoo...we have witches with babies and ghosts living in houses with these people and the hope of sanity through a placement with possible voluntary termination of parental rights...a drama we live with hearts in our throats and tears we cannot bear to let fall.
